Competitions: Preparing for California

I just wanted to make a quick post regarding the steps I'm taking over the next two weeks in preparation for California.  My partner Moses and I are preparing to compete in LA at the Emerald Ball in the Open Amateur division.  There are going to be a lot of tough competitors, and while we are always in it to win it, we are mainly looking forward to the great opportunity to meet new people and grow as dancers in our long journey to the top.

Competition Preparation: The Three P's

  • Performance- I want to focus on the, "Dance & Don't Stop" mentality.  There are no mistakes, it is all a part of the dance.  Every movement is a show for the audience and receives full commitment from my body. I want to tell a story exuberantly expressed through motion.
  • Precision- With the extra energy exuding through performance, it is so important to keep precision on point.  Precision is what will transform a dance from a blur of movement to a clear and artistic intent.  I want to zone in on foot precision and directional focus.
  • Partnering- It's not just me on the dance floor.  My partner's energy and desires are equal in importance.  I want to focus on connecting with him to phrase a question and answer dance form.  I want to find the freedom through his lead, allowing him to find the freedom through my follow.
These are the aspects I would like to focus on.  It's important if you want to improve something not to do everything.  So I will stick with the Three P's to feel prepared in Cali.

P.S Thanks to my partner and coach who help me to acquire and maintain a powerful mentality.  So blessed to have you both.
